What I Saw on Ebay Today

 1985 Toyota Turbo Diesel 4X4 Pick-Up 89,201 miles

This appears to be a very nice example of an older Toyota truck with a turbo diesel engine. From the pictures there is no rust and the interior is perfect. One note: although the truck has stripes, it is not an SR5. Check the VIN number. It has a “d” behind the model, not an “s”. Still probably the nicest turbo diesel I’ve seen in a long time. I find it curious that the engine failed at less than 89,000 miles. Something had to have happened to cause that. The owner has done a good job at rebuilding the motor, but I have to wonder what condition the turbo is in, and how long it will last. This truck is re-listed due to a non-paying bidder. The truck sold for over $10,000 before, so be prepared if you decide to bid on it. Please let me know if anyone buys this truck. Good luck!

Truth in Advertising

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Truth is- Toyota has had some very successful ad campaigns and some very memorable slogans. Do you remember your favorite?

“Oh what a feeling, Toyota” has to be mine, maybe because it’s the first one I remember. Seems this slogan has gone to the birds. Updated link

The best built cars in the world. Yes! But what about trucks?

“What will you do with all the money you save?” Toyota. Buy a set of custom rims :)

“Hey Toyota, you’re terrific!” - Toyota.

Bugger didn’t make the official list

Everything keeps going right Great for trips around the block.

Think you’re tough enough to drive a Tacoma? Ummm no.

Loch Ness Monster even prefers a Toyota.

This has to be my favorite. Did you know that Hiluxs are unbreakable? Crikey!

I love what you do for me - Toyota! Awww group hug!

I’m sure that I missed a few. Leave a comment with yours.

I gotta give props to this guy. Well done! Nice to see the attention to detail, like all the gauges seem to work, and the electronic idle. I like the idea of being able to go from 0 to 60 in 15 seconds. :)

This is a video of my 1L diesel startup. I found this truck in Ohio. The truck was totalled after just a year or two after rolling off the showroom floor. The owner bought it to fix up, but never got around to it. It had just 16,372 miles on the clock. Unfortunately he took the hood off and removed the air cleaner. So it sat outside for over 15 years with little or no protection. Even worse, when I got home I found the engine was seized. After removing the intake it was obvious there was a problem. I took the head off and found two stuck valves. After cleaning everything up and reassembling the motor- it was time to try to start it. Would it blow up or? It turned out fine, but I was very nervous for the first few seconds.

Seriously, I can think of better things to do with a new turbo diesel. Dang!
