I posted a video response to the 1L diesel engine start up. People don’t seem to understand what went on before I tried to start the motor. The motor was in a truck that was totalled back in 1985. The truck was sold for salvage and the owner intended to fix it, but never got around to it. So it sat outside from 1985 until 2002 when I managed to buy it. Along the way, the hood and air cleaner were sold or scrapped. I bought the truck without hearing the motor run, so it was a risky venture. As it turned out it was all worth it in the end. Six years later it still runs fine and I havent done anything else to it except change the oil.
1994 Toyota Toyota 4WD pickup 2LT Turbo Diesel Biodiesel
Here is your chance to get a Toyota diesel already set up for biodiesel. The owner says he’s been running on grease for more than 27,000 miles without any trouble using a GreaseCar system ( www.greasecar.com ),a VegTherm (electric fuel heater) and a VegSensor (thermo controller) for added heat. The swap is based on a 94 standard cab Toyota pickup. The japanese import engine is a 2LT and the truck has a 5 speed transmission. The sale comes with extra parts, and a training session on biodiesel. Here is a short video of the truck running.
Toyota’s most efficient turbo diesel engine, is now also the most desirable engine swap. The 1KZ-TE turbo diesel engine is a 4 cylinder 3.0L (2982 cc) SOHC with 2 valves per cylinder. Bore is 96mm and stroke is 103mm with a compression ratio of 21.2:1. Maximum output is 130 hp (97 kW) @ 3600 rpm and a maximum torque of 29.3 kgf-m (287 N-m) @ 2000 rpm. Max rpm is 4400. Importers can find these engines in KZJ71W, KZJ78W, KZN160 model Toyotas
The intercooler equipped version of the engine power up to maximum output of 145 hp (108 kW) @ 3600 rpm and maximum torque of 35.0 kgf·m (343 N·m) @ 2000 rpm. Found in KZJ90 (Prado, Colorado 3-door), KZJ95 (Prado, Colorado 5-door)
Using an aluminium cross-flow cylinder head, the 1KZ-TE diesel utilizes a deep-skirt externally ribbed cylinder block for greater rigidity. Scissor gears on both the front and back of the timing gear idler and twin gear-driven balance shafts help to further reduce engine vibration. The aluminium pistons have a top ring groove of fiber reinforced metal.
The turbo is a lightweight compact design that is water-cooled for durability and to help combat the turbo diesel’s high operating temperatures trucks are fitted with a larger radiator, revised fan shroud, and long-life coolant. The new ceramic glow plugs heat up very quickly; even on cold early-morning starts. Boost pressure is set at 7.4-9.7 psi (51-67kpa).
