Up for sale this week on Ebay is a 1995 Toyota Extended Cab 4X4 that has been converted from gas to diesel. According to the auction listing:  The paint is in excellent condition. The interior is in good shape with a small rip on the drivers side. The entire bed and body were removed to clean and prep the frame for a new paint job.  The entire frame was cleaned, primed and painted black.  The entire truck, bed, body and engine bay were painted white. The truck has a clean Virginia title with no liens, but due to Ebay listing guidelines, this truck is listed as salvage.

Now lets get to the best part, The 2L Turbo diesel motor.  First off you will have something that almost no one else has and it is an attention getter. When you start this truck up with the deep exhaust and the unmistakable sound of a Turbo whine it will get the attention of any one that knows diesels.  It has enough power to run the highways at speed limits with out any concerns and gets good gas mileage doing it.  The turbo is brand new and the motor has less than 90,000 miles.  The glow plugs are new.  There is no air conditioning installed.  The truck is wired for AC but not installed.  The AC components are included with the truck and will be provided to the winning bidder. This motor, transmission, diesel tank and parts and accessories were imported from Japan.  The seller still has pictures of the half cut and pictures of the original instrument cluster that the motor came out of and may have the original Japan Hilux owners manual.

This truck received 42 bids on Ebay but did not sell for $9000

Up for sale this week on Ebay is a 1985 Toyota diesel pickup JT4LN55DXE5000623. The current owner has spent a great deal of time and money restoring the truck. It has new paint and new stickers. The engine has been rebuilt and is a 2L with a 5 speed transmission. The injection pump and the injectors have been rebuilt, timing belt and water pump are new. It has power steering and air conditioning which works great. Radio is new. Tires are new. Toyota diesels are in high demand right now so get your bids in while the price is low.
(By the way it’s not an SR5 truck as the stickers indicate)

Sold for $5808 on Ebay

Up for sale is something I didn’t think could be done- an imported diesel truck. This is just a taste of what the rest of the world gets to drive- a 2008 Toyota Hilux Vigo. The seller mentions that there was another one recently sold in Texas, which I did see. However if it is the same one, it did not sell for more than the asking price on this truck as the seller claims. In fact is sold for $23,500 and was a 2009 model and appears to be about identical. One difference was thought the other seller was up front about the fact that the truck was “sold on a bill of sale and a non-US title; sold intended for “off-road” and/or private use.” State laws can vary but before spending 20+ grand on a diesel truck that gets 25 – 27 mpg, it would seem to be an important step to make sure you can drive it on the road legally. Both have Vin numbers and usually that’s a good sign to get started with the registration process. I would have a hard time parting with 23 1/2 grand on a vehicle without getting a title in return. I mean who’s to say it isn’t stolen? Once your money is gone there’s little recourse if something bad should happen. All I am saying is, with these imported trucks is do alot of homework first. Believe me I am all for imported some great turbo diesels into the states. All I have heard for many years now is that it can’t be done – legally. With all the gov’ment restrictions, EPA certification, DOT safety requirements, emissions testing, crash test certifications, well its a wonder anything can get done. But then even if you could, would you? Where do you get parts for it when it does break down?
